History:

Santiago Calatrava Valls studied architecture at the Escuela Tecnica Superios de Arquitecture de Valencia in 1969 and later studied civil engineering in 1975. Calatrava began his first architecture and engineering practice in Zurich, Switzerland in 1981. All of his work is readily characterized by its focus on architecture, engineering, and sculpture. Much of his career is dedicated to bridges and train stations, but their forms depict a language that is derived from natural forms and the human body. With strong gestures of form and unorthodox structural techniques, Calatrava’s style has been called by many as linking the seperation between structural engineering and architecture.

History:
“Hopkins Architects have helped pioneer British architecture since our founding by Sir Michael Hopkins in 1976. The Practice is now led by six Senior Partners and we are based in London, having completed projects throughout the world. Our deeply-rooted architectural, environmental and social convictions guide our designs and we work confidently and collaboratively in a manner appropriate to each client’s needs, ambitions and budget.

At the heart of the Practice’s organisation are Design Teams, which are formed to take a new project from inception to completion and ensure continuity of brief and design intent. These teams are led by a Senior Partner who collaborates on each project with leading engineers, cost-control consultants and other specialists. Experience has taught us that the best buildings come from close cooperation between ourselves, our consultants, and the client and their advisors and we approach every project with this in mind.

We take great pride in our adaptability throughout the design and construction process and we have worked with varied clients ranging from individuals to city councils to Boards of Trustees to developers. We work from offices which we designed ourselves in Marylebone that house a team of approximately 80 architects and staff. In addition, we operate a second Design Studio in Dubai and maintain Project Offices in Tokyo, Shanghai and Munich. The size of our practice has allowed us to gain a breadth of experience from projects in a variety of sectors while maintaining an intimate connection to the development of each design.” [Source]

History:
“…Louis Page Jr. and Louis Southerland, who had been classmates at MIT, formed the firm of Page and Southerland in Austin, and during the 1930s, completed landmark work for the Austin State School, Rosewood Housing (one of the first public housing projects in the United States) and the 1937 Austin City Hall, as well as houses for Lyndon B. Johnson and many other legendary Texas figures. Louis Page began what would become a strong link between the firm and academia by teaching at the University of Texas. His brother, George, joined the firm, expanding the name to Page Southerland Page…

Though now a large firm with multiple offices in the U.S. and abroad, Page has retained a rootedness in the communities it serves and an investment in making a long-term difference in the cities where it builds. There is a strong belief in the kind of cumulative placemaking that great firms have made in the past. The current Page practice is aimed at making that kind of difference in the 21st century through a sophisticated integration of civic involvement alongside progressive planning, urban design and architecture.” (source)

Although the title of ‘NORR Limited’ (Neish Owen Rowland & Roy) has only been used since 1986, the firm’s partnerships and traditions harken back to 1938 when John B. Parkin started his private practice in Toronto.  By 1947, he was joined by Edmund T. Parkin (Brother) and John C. Parkin (no relation).  Roy Marshall joined as a partner, in 1970, when John C. Parkin left to create his separate ‘Parkin Architects Planners’.  NORR now operates as one of the largest design firms in Canada. (Source)

HISTORY:
In 1958, Alexander Ewing, at the time working for his father’s firm, joined with the in house architect Stanley Cole in order to design the expansion of the Rohm and Haas offices in Philadelphia. Although initially the design ran into trouble due to the site’s inability to accomadate the needs of the company, Ewing and Cole managed to switch the location to a new site on Independence Mall, not far from the Liberty Bell. The resulting design recieved countless praise from the city due to it’s ability to expand while maintaining respect fro the park as well as the surrounding historic buildings.
In 1961 the firm was officially established as Alexander Ewing & Associates, with their headquartes in Philadelphia. Over the years the firm has taken on many partners including Michael P. Erdman, Joseph P. Eubank, Robert Cherry, and Robert Parsky, all the time changing the name of the company to their credit. But in 2003, following the death of partner Paul Brott and the departure of Bob Cherry, the firm took on the new name of EwingCole.

History:
“In 1917, Henning H. Henningson was struck by how many people near and far needed better water works, sewer systems and electric plants. So he founded the Henningson Engineering Company in Omaha, Nebraska, adding value to the local community and inspiring positive change in neighboring states.

By the 1930s, our company was moving rural communities forward by lighting up their streets and helping them recover from drought. Just 20 years later, we added architectural services to our growing roster and expanded our engineering services to include resource management, community planning, transportation and more.

Chuck Durham, a civil engineer, led our early era of growth, as we expanded from 15 employees to more than a thousand. Chuck went on to become a philanthropic giant, instilling the value of giving back in the fabric of our culture.

Our entrepreneurial spirit continued into the 1990s, as our employee-ownership energized the company. By winning more global projects, we opened doors to share our talents with people around the world.

Today, we continue to collaborate with our clients to push boundaries and uncover new possibilities.” (source)

History:

Elwyn E. Steelye and Company is the oldest of STV’s firms. Steelye and Company focused primarily on structural design, but after a few years the company grew to include mechanical and electrical engineering services as it added partners, eventually becoming Steelye Stevenson Value & Knecht.

STV arose from a merger of Voss Engineering and Sanders & Thomas Inc. in 1968. The first major acquisition of the newly formed STV was Steelye Stevenson Value & Knecht.

On August 29th 2001, STV became 100 percent employee owned by converting to a private firm. This decision was reached by unanimous consent from employee and public shareholders. In 2006, STV added Ralph Whitehead Associates to their family. The addition of Ralph Whitehead Associates elevated STV’s consulting, civil, and transportational background.

Currently, STV is consistently ranked among some of the best engineering firms in the world. They placed 36th overall in Engineering News Record’s list of the top 500 Design Firms in the world.

Acquired CP&Y in September, 2021

This was the first plant ever designed for condensing operation, this gave their client the most exonomical plant of its time. Sargent & Lundy began their nuclear power leadership in the mid 1950’s, when they designed the world’s first boiling water reactor which was installed at Argonne National Laboratory. International work began in 1917 when Sargent & Lundy designed a 10-MW plant in Tocopilla, Chile for the Chile Exploration Company.

Sargent & Lundy specalializes in professional services for electrical power and energy intensive clients. They provide complete consulting, engineering, and project developent services for all types of fossil-fuel, nuclear, and renewable power generation and power delivery projects. History:

Halcrow’s pedigree stretches back to 1868 when Thomas Meik, one of the most knowledgeable men of his time on docks and harbour works, set up in practice as a consulting engineer.

Thomas Meik retired in 1888 and left the company in the hands of his two sons, Patrick and Charles and the company became Thomas Meik and Sons and later P.W. and C.S. Meik. Under the brothers the company continued to make steady progress with docks, harbours and railway projects preeminent.

In 1921 William Halcrow was taken into the partnership which in 1923 became known as C.S. Meik and Halcrow and then W.T. Halcrow and Partners in 1941.
