Alan Locke – IBE Consulting Engineers

Biography
Alan Locke was born in Scotland during the mid 1950’s, and initially worked in a factory after high school before deciding to go to college. He received his Bachelor of Science, Mechanical, and Industrial Engineering, from Napier University of Commerce and Technology, Edinburgh, Scotland, and went on to complete a Master of Science, Fuel Technology, from Middlesex University in London, UK (1). Locke worked for ARUP after university, and became the youngest director at the Los Angeles office in 1987.
Then, in 1999 Locke founded IBE Consulting Engineers. Since then, he has worked on over 100 projects such as schools, libraries, corporate office buildings, campus planning, and value engineering sessions (2). In addition, Alan Locke is currently an adjunct professor of Climatology and Environmental Control Systems at UCLA’s school of architecture (2).
His personal compassion for energy efficiency and cost effective designs is inspired by the economic restrictions the globe faces due to fuel and power scarcities.
“At the time, ‘green’ was a dirty word—it meant a ‘hippie’. Instead, we used terms like ‘energy efficiency’ and ‘comfort’ to make the case,” Alan Locke (3). As of 2011, Alan Locke is a principal engineer at IBE Consulting Engineers.
