Hunt, Anthony

Born in 1932 in London, Anthony Hunt studied as a part time student at Westminster Technical College and earned his professional qualification after working for the firm Wheeler & Jupp. He worked for Felix Samuely and Partners from 1953-1960 where he “was involved with a number of lightweight steel frame structures combined with precast floors.” Next, he worked at Hancock Associates for 2 years where he dealt with mostly timber structures. In 1962, he founded Anthony Hunt Associates where he worked until his retirement in 2002. Anthony Hunts Associates merged with Sinclair Knight Merz to form SKM Anthony Hunts in 2004. (1)

Hunt was a pioneer of the “lightweight, prefabricated, component- based style of British architecture that came to be called High Tech.” He was a major collaborator with the new generation of architects that came to prominence in 1960’s London, including Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, and Nicholas Grimshaw.
