Engineering Spotlight: Hüseyin Darama

Hüseyin Darama earned the highest GPA at the Istanbul Technical University when he graduated in 1993 with a BSc in Civil Engineering. He was awarded a Monbukagakusho Scholarship to continue his studies in Japan at the University of Tokyo where he received a MSc in Civil Engineering in 1995 and a PhD in Structural Engineering in 2006.

Darama specializes in base isolation and supplementary damping, as well as earthquake response analysis and modeling. From Arup’s LA office he has contributed to projects across the world. Darama was the seismic expert on Istanbul’s Sabiha Göçken International Airport Terminal which, at over 200,000m², is considered the largest seismically isolated building in the world.
