Founder
Canadian architect Todd Saunders founded Saunders Architecture in 1998, in Bergen Norway, after his studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax and McGill University in Montreal. Saunders also works as a part-time lecturer at the Bergen Architecture school, and guest lectures at various universities in Canada and Norway. His work has extended to Germany, Austria, Russia, and Latvia.
History
Saunders Architecture merges traditional building methods with experimental techniques and materials. The firm focuses on contemporary design with an emphasis on combining natural features with man-made structures. Saunders Architecture has completed a variety of projects in different areas of expertise, ranging from an island studio in Canada (Fogo Island Studios), to a lake house in Norway (Villa Storingavika). The firm (composed of only 5 people) has been published in over 20 books and over 30 magazines, and has accumulated numerous accolades and commendations for its architectural work and portfolio, including a nomination for the Mies van der Rohe prize in 2006.
