Firm History:
The firm established its roots 1983 when four architects – Chris Carver, Ron Labinski, Joe Spear and Dennis Wellner – built on the idea to create a sports architecture firm like no other in the United States. At the time these four architects were under the umbrella of HOK Group, an architecture firm based in St. Louis. “The four founded the first practice dedicated exclusively to the design of sports facilities, pioneering a new specialty and starting a firm that would grow into a worldwide leader.” (web) In 1984, the firm employed six people, and in just more than a decade they exceeded 160 employees.  Populous has designed nearly 1,000 projects and events, and represented more than $20 billion in construction around the globe in the first 26 years of its existence.
