History: The firm was started by Jerry Herschman in 1974 under the name Herschman Architects. The practice consisted almost exclusively of commercial and retail-based interior architecture for its first 15 years, then started transitioning into ground-up and shell buildings.

After slowly integrating more engineering services in the early 2000s, a dedicated design department was added in 2014 to diversify the firm’s project portfolio and emphasize their value of aspirational design. The practice was rebranded as Onyx Creative in 2018 to merge their reputation of quality service and relationships with a renewed focus on elevated design sensibility. Source
