History:
IBE Consulting Engineers was founded by Alan Locke in 1999 with a goal to integrate architecture and MEP systems in a way that promotes innovative engineering, sustainability and aesthetic design (1). As of 2011 Alan Locke and John Gautrey are the current partners for the company, and the principal engineers are Tony Cocea and Bungane Mehlomakulu. An early mechanical and plumbing project was the Temple Bat Yahm, Newport Beach, California. This temple and campus facility was started in 1999 with Lehrer Architects and completed in 2002 (2). The project utilized sustainable design using a mixed mode ventilation system, underfloor air conditioning, and fully glazed roofing (3).
The firm was also involved in the Water + Life Museum project, which was extremely successful as it became the world’s first LEED Platinum museum (4).Currently, the firm is expanding into Paris, France with similar goals of efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. As the MEP and sustainability consultants for Le Phare, the tower will feature: a wind turbine farm on the roof, a highly efficient chilled-water plant, multiple glass skin and facade designs for optimal solar gain and view (5).
