History
Fluor was founded in 1912 as an engineering and construction firm in the western United States. In the 1920s, Fluor expanded into the realm of oil & gas, building factories and refineries and patenting new technologies. During World War II and the 1940s, the company experienced rapid growth and added power and chemical fields to its arsenal. Fluor continued to develop these industries and worked on many large projects such as the Alaskan pipeline in the 1970s and held Engineering-News Record’s number one engineering and construction company title in 1987. Since the 1990s Fluor has seen great international expansion fueled by petrochemical, infrastructure, and environmental projects.
