History:

The company was founded by a group of construction and architecture professionals, led by Ian Macpherson, who left Bovis in 1990 hoping to bring in some new, more collaborative ways of working in the traditionally combative construction industry.

The Mace startup team got its first break in 1997 when it beat Bovis and was appointed as project and construction managers on British Airways’ Waterside headquarters at Heathrow.[2] The company went on to deliver the London Eye on the South Bank and The Venetian in Macau. In early 2009 Mace was appointed to deliver the fixed price The Shard tower above London Bridge station.[3]

Mace has grown by combining commercial construction with moves into the public sector (where it now delivers project management to local authorities, delivery of schools and academies and healthcare consultancy) and infrastructure, including aviation, rail, water, highways and a number of large scale waste and energy management programmes around the British Isles.

Mace rebranded in 2008, becoming Mace Group, expanding its service offer, spanning consultancy services and construction across the entire property life cycle.

History:
“In retrospect, hard times bring big opportunities. If times didn’t get much harder than 1931, the year of our founding, the opportunities that sprang up in later years were never bigger. Engineering and technology were constantly challenged to rise to the occasion. And rise they did in response to unprecedented changes, from unbridled urbanization and ever more devastating natural catastrophes to transportation gridlock (on the ground and in the air); economic and technology pressures on the nation’s healthcare system; an insatiable demand for bigger, grander sports complexes; the necessity for greening and sustainability in the built environment; and the unpredictable impact of an emerging global economy.

Walter P Moore evolved with the times and in direct response to all of the possibilities. Our expansion to other cities and the diversification of our engineering services began in the 1950s, during America’s post-war boom. This growth led directly to one of modern engineering’s most spectacular milestones, the world’s first major domed stadium. As structural engineer of the Houston Astrodome, we helped usher in a new era in professional sports and created our own benchmark for future innovation.” [Source]

History:
“In 1980, ACR Engineering, Inc. adopted the principles of re-engineering and applied the discipline in innovative ways to make buildings and systems more energy efficient and less costly to operate. At the time, we didn’t know energy efficiency and re-engineering would become woven into the very fabric of our company—but they are. We are different, and we’ve made a difference!

Today, energy efficiency is at the heart of each and every ACR Engineering, Inc. project because energy efficiency is in the heart of every ACR employee. We’ve continually improved our methods and expanded our expertise in ‘standard’ engineering services, but efficient energy use is our passion and is still our ‘raison d’être’. It’s a highly valued intangible we bring to every project.

We are different in other ways too. While most engineering companies work through an architect, we prefer to develop our own projects. This means that, from the beginning, we are accessible to you and directly accountable to you from the conception of an idea through the construction and commissioning phases—and beyond.” (source)

History:
“Structures, a 24 year old, Austin based structural engineering design firm, works with owners, architects, contractors and consultants to realize project goals.  We offer full design services including feasibility assessment, schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction administration for new structures.  Our reputation for strong project coordination as well as our vast knowledge of building systems, offer our clients a fully integrated structural design that is efficient, economical and constructible.  Throughout the design process, we are mindful of the architectural intent, the needs of other consultants, the contractor’s assembly and the owner’s goals.

Jerry Garcia founded Structures in 1990 specializing in residential projects. He began with small projects and as his reputation for good engineering grew, so did the complexity, scope and company staff. One of our most complex residential projects was a $35 million dollar residence that implemented a wide range of structural approaches to satisfy the architectural intent and construction schedule. This variety of structural solutions included structural steel, suspended cast in place concrete, pan joist concrete systems, load bearing structural CMU as well as light gage metal assemblies.

Structures has grown to provide services in other markets including higher education, government, hospitality, commercial and healthcare. Our focus on client service, proactive coordination and consideration for constructability that we cultivated on residential projects, has contributed to the great success on projects in other markets. Our ability to respond to unique structural challenges on time and within budget has earned our firm great recognition and respect among our peers in the design and construction industry.” (source)

History:
“Datum was founded in Dallas in 1937 by Mr. Frank Chappell, a much-admired engineer whose works included the 3525 Turtle Creek Apartments, the General Services Administration Building, and the Cotton Bowl, among several other buildings at Fair Park.

In 1963, a very young Thomas Taylor took over operations of the firm and began to build on Mr. Chappell’s legacy. Under Mr. Taylor’s leadership, Datum has grown into a regional leader in structural engineering, with a reputation for tackling technically complex projects, providing outstanding, client-focused service, and innovative design solutions. But passion for design and architecture – the “Art of Structural Engineering” – has been Mr. Taylor’s signature. Projects such as Thanksgiving Square, the Ballpark at Arlington, the Chapel of St. Ignatius, EDS Headquarters, and the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank have become Datum’s signature works.

In 2004, six Datum employees with a combined 128 years of tenure with the firm became new principals under the beginnings of an ownership transition plan which includes Mr. Taylor. The transition ensures the future of the firm for two more generations, and allows Mr. Taylor to focus on continuing to provide design guidance in his role as principal design engineer.

Datum remains committed to building on our legacy of design excellence, cultivating a passion for architecture, and practicing the Art of Structural Engineering.” (Source)
