Marvin Mass began his career in 1952 with Cosentini Associates and has helped establish Cosentini as one of the top engineering firms in the last half-century. At 84, Mass now resides as the Chairman of the firm. He attended New York University and received his Mechanical Engineering degree, leading him to become a licensed mechanical engineer in 23 states. His career includes achievements such as the design of New York City’s first total energy and chilled water storage plants, the use of waterside economized air conditioning systems for office buildings, as well as systems within the Solar Energy House at the University of Delaware. Mass is a long-standing faculty member at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and at Yale University. He has also lectured at institutions such as University of Pennsylvania, Pratt Institute, and Cooper Union. Honors and awards he has received include the Brown Medal of the Franklin Institute and the 1990 AIA Institute Honors, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers.
