Syska Hennessy Group, Inc. was founded in 1928 by mechanical engineers Adolph G. Syska and John F. Hennessy. Originally named Syska & Hennessy Engineers, the firm strongly focused on electrical and mechanical engineering technologies, but soon expanded their expertise to include “consulting, engineering, technology, and construction services.” Its first major project was the U.S. Post Office Department Building in Washington, D.C., quickly followed by the Frick Collection in New York City, and finally entering the global level in 1939 with the ES&A Bank in Melbourne, Australia. Over the next few decades, Syska Hennessy Group, Inc. developed new technologies such as solar energy use, combination lighting fixtures and air diffusers, and strip line air diffusers. Their selection as the project engineer for the new United Nations headquarters in New York City solidified their position as an industry leader. [1] As well as broadening their technological expertise, the firm expanded in size by establishing offices all over the country, as well as a few internationally. Over the years, the firm was put in charge of many more high profile projects including: The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington as well as the renovation of the Pentagon after the 9/11 attacks. [2]

In 2000, Syska Hennessy Group, Inc. transitioned from a family-owned firm to a management-owned firm, and is currently under the leadership of Co-CEOs Gary Brennen and Cyrus Izzo. They pride themselves in their leadership in technologies such as sustainable design, low voltage technology, and architectural lighting design, while still maintaining their skills in mechanical and electrical engineering that enabled them to build such a strong foundation as a company.
